New Year’s Resolutions for Small Businesses in 2015

Topics: Warehouse/Inventory Management, ERP

Posted on Jan 6, 2015 11:00:00 AM by Bruce Hollinger

Happy New Year! 2014 was a great year, but we think you can make 2015 even better. Here are a few goals you can set to help take you to the next level this year.

Get Real-Time Information

Frustrated with endless data entry? Feel like you spend hours determining the right data to enter? And then even more time interpreting the data once it is entered? It sounds like you are working in a paper-based business management, or ERP, system.

Today’s technology (warehouse management software, mobile devices, cloud computing, Wi-Fi, etc.) allows businesses to leave the world of heads-down data entry and start using real-time data collection processes. Mobile tools can now automate business processes at every touch point throughout the organization, eliminating the need for after-the-fact data entry.

Improve Customer Service

Once you have real-time data at your fingertips, you can resolve to make your customers’ buying experience the best it can be this year. Inventory management becomes much simpler with this real-time information and you can be sure products ordered are in stock and customers get what they purchased. Organizing and tracking shipments is also easier and you can give customers accurate deliver details.

Achieve Best In Class Traceability and Compliance

Traceability is the ability to follow the movement of a product and its constituents backward and forward. Operational efficiency in the warehouse and better collection and use of data leads to better traceability. Many industries must provide traceability in order to follow compliance regulations that ensure the safety of their products.

What does this look like?

  • Real-time information about location of products
  • Ability to associate ingredients with a finished product
  • Demonstrate that you sent what your customer ordered

To achieve best-in-class traceability, you must use technology that tracks your products in real-time and be able to document this movement. The hardware needed to track products this way includes bar codes, printers, and scanners / readers.

So this year, make it your goal to stop using paper-based systems and start getting real-time data! This will lead to better customer service, best in class traceability and compliance.
