Poll: 3 Primary Benefits of New ERP

We recently conducted a poll of both Macola customers as well as prospects and asked this question: “What area of ‘New ERP’ would bring the most benefit to your business?”

We found the results to be very interesting, as over 60% claimed that the greatest benefit of ERP was Automated Workflows. The next closest, at 25%, was Built-in CRM, with Personalized Workspaces coming in third.

Of course, there are many more benefits of a new ERP solution, such as streamlining operations, managing key business functions, increasing productivity and growing profitability—just to name a few. But for now, let’s look a little more closely at the three benefits listed in this poll: automated workflows, built-in CRM and personalized workspaces.

Benefit #1 - Automated Workflows

It may come as a surprise that Automated Workflows was rated so highly in this poll. But after considering all the benefits attached to combining new ERP with automated workflows, it really isn’t a surprise why it was rated so highly.

Because with automated workflows, you can establish automatic triggers that ensure each step in a process is followed in the appropriate order. This, in turn, reduces errors and redundancies as well as manual effort while increasing efficiency and productivity. Additionally, by creating smart criteria you can set up alternate processes that can be followed if certain conditions arise.

But this is just the tip of the Automated Workflows iceberg.  To capture all the potential benefits of automated workflows, we started to make a list—which was turning into a very long list, too long for this blog post. So instead, we categorized these benefits (which, by the way, are discussed in full in an earlier blog post, The Five Benefits of Automated Workflows). But for now, let’s take a look at a few highlights:

Automated Workflows by Benefit

  1. Improve visibility & control of enterprise processes
    If a business constantly struggles with budget overruns, then this first benefit can assist in drastically decreasing or eliminating these overrun scenarios.
  1. Reduce costs & increase revenue -
    Monitor budgets against actual costs. After creating automated workflows, you don’t have to wait until the end of the month for a full budget vs actuals report. Instead, you can be notified in real time when a project’s actual costs outpace its budgeted amount.
  1. Reduce errors & improve accuracy
    This third benefit can help in identifying errors. For example, in your supply chain, be automatically notified of orders with configuration errors (such as missing parts).
  1. Reduce manual effort & paperwork, increase productivity

    This benefit is perhaps the most noticeable and easily quantifiable benefit of all. Automated workflows can reduce, or even eliminate, the “busy work.”
  1. Spot bottlenecks & redundancies, increase efficiency
    Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of automated workflows is the ability to spot bottlenecks and redundancies and increase efficiency. One example of this is by setting up delivery delays alerts, or an automatic notification if key personnel are not available.

Benefit #2 - CRM

Customer Relationship Management may have come in second in our recent poll, but there’s no arguing that to seamlessly integrate customer data across the organization into a single, unified database, CRM is in first place.

With CRM in new ERPs, your clients, business partners, employees and vendors can automatically be associated to one another and to all relevant and mission-critical business transactions.

In fact, the integration of all department processes allows one to capture the entire customer experience as it relates to their business. The CRM functionality does much more than simply store, update and manage customer data. It provides the crucial information necessary to continuously cultivate the customer relationship. Monitor, understand, manage and maximize sales performance, as well as leverage customer information into long-term customer loyalty and retention – anytime and anywhere from your web browser or mobile device.

Benefit #3 – Personalized User Experience

Personalized dashboards give you the ability to drill down into the contextual information on your screen, and take action on it right from your workspace. Through configurable menus and system tasks, these role-based workspaces can provide specific views, actions and workflows for roles such as management, sales, shops and human resources. Some new ERP solutions provide role-based workspaces out of the box, while a few even allow the user to configure workspaces that are unique to their specific needs, without the need for costly customization.
